ABOUT OUR PASTOR
Jamie Lamont Capers is the youngest of five siblings, a husband, a father, a friend, a proclaimer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Capers is a visionary whose philosophical belief rests in ‘Now is the Time’, Capers. Capers is the author of “Peace Be Still: A Book of Poems” and Nurturing the Soul: A 40-Day Spiritual Journey and “The Soul Speaks: A Journey through the Gospel of Luke and Other Writings.
Capers is a graduate of Mayewood High School in Sumter, South Carolina and graduate of the University of Mississippi (B.A. in Broadcast Journalism - 1998). Capers has earned the Master of Divinity Degree with a concentration in Administration and Leadership from Phillips School of Theology at the Interdenominational Theological Center (2009) and the Doctor of Ministry Degree in Christian Spirituality from Columbia Theological Seminary (2018).
Capers’ ministry began at Carr’s Chapel C.M.E. in Oakland, Mississippi where he was licensed to preach. Ministerial assignments are as followed: Associate Minister and Youth Minister- Carter Metropolitan C.M.E. in Fort Worth, TX, Pastor - Mt. Zion C.M.E. in Alpine, AL, Pastor - St. John C.M.E. Church in Gadsden, AL, and Holsey Chapel C.M.E. in Columbus, GA, Bethel C.M.E. in Macon, GA, and Miles Chapel CME Church in Tyler, Texas.
During his tenure in Georgia under the leadership of Bishop Kenneth W. Carter, Capers fulfilled various ministerial duties: Chair of the Joint Board of Finance for the West Georgia Region, member of the Ministerial Examination Committee and Dean of the Christian Leadership School. Capers was active within the community as well: Board Member of the Liberty Theatre, Board Member of the Community Center in Columbus, Mentor for J.D. Davis Elementary, Member of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, Member of the 100 Black Men of America, Member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Member of the Ethics Committee at Doctor’s Hospital, and other community organizations. The Rho Rho Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority honored Capers with the 2014 Human Rights and Social Concern Award in Columbus. Capers also served as the Coordinator of Education for the 6th Episcopal District of the CME Church.
While serving in the 8th Episcopal District under the leadership of Senior Bishop L.L. Reddick., III, Capers also served Campus Minister as well as Instructor of Religion at Texas College in Tyler, Texas. Additionally, Capers served as Coordinator of Ministerial Development in Ministry, Director of Evangelism and Missions for the Central Texas Region, volunteer with the Tyler ISD School System, partner with Tyler in Common as well as Walls to Bridges.
In July 2022, Capers was assigned as pastor of Lynch Street CME Church in Jackson, Mississippi and Presiding Elder of the Greenwood/Jackson District in the Mississippi South Region of the 4th Episcopal District. Capers also serves as assistant secretary for the General Conference of the CME Church.
Additionally, Capers is the founder of Greater Heights International, LLC. Capers has a vision for local, national, and international ministry which is evident in his numerous trips to Haiti, Jamaica, Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda.
Capers is married to Angela T. Capers, and together they have three children: Shavanna, Zaccheus, and Genesis.
